Clean The Soot, Ash & Smoke Off Of Your Fireplace Bricks

Is your fireplace looking dingy and dirty? You can clean soot, ash, and smoke off fireplace bricks, and it’s not too hard to do with the right cleaning product.

If you want to clean the bricks before you start a renovation project, or you just want to make the area look cleaner, be mindful of the cleaning products you use because of the soot, smoke, and brick texture. There are two things to keep in mind when taking on this task.

What To Keep In Mind While Cleaning Your Fireplace

The residue from soot and smoke is oil-based, so they won’t clean up like many other household messes that are water-based. Even if you try to repaint the wall with smoke stains, the stains will come through the paint if it’s water-based. The second thing to keep in mind is that the bricks on your fireplace are very porous, so many of the cleaning products that you might use will just go into the holes the bricks contain and the liquid will sit there. The dirt will ultimately stay on the bricks and it becomes harder to remove the cleaning products.

If you’re not sure what cleaning solution is best to use for cleaning your fireplace, we suggest reaching out to your local chimney sweep. Our Valley Chimney experts suggest using a scrub brush, cleaning cloths/rags, and Speedy White Hearth & Stove Cleaner. Depending on just how dirty the bricks are, you may have to repeat your spraying, scrubbing, and cleaning routine two or three times to get the brick clean.

The black soot and smoke stains will come off, and all of the grime that was once on your fireplace will be gone. After spending some time cleaning, your fireplace bricks will look almost brand new.

Valley Chimney Sweep not only cleans and repairs chimneys, fireplaces, and dryer vents, but we can also give you advice on how to keep your fireplace looking clean on the outside.
