Chimney Chase Top Replacement in Montgomery

We recently installed a new chimney chase top in Montgomery, IL. Valley Chimney Sweep & Restoration installed the chase top after our homeowners had new siding installed on their home.

The chimney chase cover is a piece of copper or stainless steel that covers the complete top surface of the chimney housing and extends over the edges of the siding or brick. The most common and cost effective material used is galvanized steel.

It’s a fact of homeownership that your chimney chase top will eventually need replacing. When the chase cover begins to rust, it’s possible for it to begin to drip rust water onto your siding or brick, leaving an unsightly rust stain. A chase cover also protects the inside of the flue and chimney by keeping in heat and sealing out the weather.

Chase covers come standard on pre-fabricated/manufactured fireplaces. Most prefabricated covers are made with galvanized metal that will rust shortly after the factory installed coating wears off.

A damaged or rusted out chase cover can lead to moisture problems and mold growth in the framing that supports and hides your fireplace and chimney system. It’s important to repair any issues with your chase top as soon as you see them. Waiting will end up costing you more in the future.
